     LAWN AND GARDEN ASSISTANT

       JOB DESCRIPTION

Hourly range commensurate with qualifications

Possess basic knowledge of and relating to lawn and garden such as live plants, botanicals, tools, supplies and accessories and the Epicor Eagle retail computer system.  Assist with all aspects of the Lawn and Garden Department. This includes but is not limited to the greenhouse and store aisles relating to lawn and garden. Position is responsible for assisting in product presentation, merchandising and daily operations for Lawn and Garden Department. 

Listed is a representation of some of the minimal duties and functions that must be mastered in order to be considered for this classification. This is not all-inclusive and is open to any related duties and functions that may be assigned.

The Lawn and Garden Assistant is under the direction of the Lawn and Garden Specialist, and Shift Manager. 

 Communicate with the Lawn and Garden Specialist and/or Shift Manager for additional daily tasks to be accomplished.

  1. Provide “Ace Helpful” customer service.
  2. Answer all customer service calls as directed.
  3. Answer incoming customer calls for service.
  4. Assist customers with service and sales in all departments when needed but specifically in the Lawn and Garden department.
  5. Daily watering of live plants and botanicals.
  6. Proficient in handling propane heaters.
  7. Proficient in daily maintaining assigned aisles and/or areas.  
  8. Knowledge of inventory and pricing structure.
  9. Maintain and print bin tags and signage as needed.
  10. Proficient in processing overstock.
  11. Proficient in stocking and fronting merchandise.
  12. Able to assemble and display merchandise.
  13. Must be physically able to safely lift up to 65 lbs. repetitively.
  14. Must be able to lift greater than 65 lbs. with assistance.
  15. Must be able to withstand the outside temperatures during all seasons and like to work outdoors.
  16. Must be able to maintain a professional appearance with uniform, name tag and personal hygiene.
  17. Carry a radio and respond to customer service as directed.
  18. Certified in operation of forklift and, as required, other materials handling equipment (must be 18 years of age or older).
  19. Proficient in cashiering if required.
  20. Ability to work with limited supervision.  Must be able to stay focused on tasks, be project oriented and complete tasks.
  21. Must be willing and able to learn new concepts and ideas.
  22. Contribute to an environment that is safe, positively stimulating, motivating and encourages harmony.
